The rule is a cross, not a square
A tap affects direct neighbours only. Diagonals should stay as they were, and the shape is smaller at the edge.
Bright is not the only active state
Dim stars are selectable too. Mention the cell position and state when describing input problems.
Review the prepared message
The form creates mail text locally. Open it in your email application and send it there; preparing it is not delivery.
Trace the effect of the tap
Required: a reply name, email, topic and message. Context is optional.
Review your unsent draft
Opening a mail app is not delivery. Complete the send action there, or paste the draft into webmail. A configured mail handler is needed for the email link.
